Alternative Ending for "The Gift of the Magi"
You probably know the story called "The Gift of the Magi". Basically, we have a couple who are very poor but they want to buy presents for each other. In the end they sell the things they value the most but the other significant other bought something related to the thing they valued. In our English class, we were wanted to write a new ending to the famous story. However, I don't think my story got the recognition it deserved so that's why I'll be uploading my alternative ending here. Even if they don't care about my story, maybe you will. So here it is.
"…She wanted to buy a gift for Jim. She checked her purse, she only had 1.87$ in it. She was devastated. She sat on her armchair, thinking. What could she buy for that money? She stared at the reflection of herself from the mirror in the corner of the room. The only thing she owned that could be considered valuable was her hair. Her hair was very dear to her, and also to Jim, of course. She stood up, having decided on what to do. She took her coat and got outside. She was still thinking when she arrived to the hairdresser. She looked at her reflection from the window one last time and entered the workshop. Everything happened so fast from then, or maybe she felt like that. She was feeling terrible but she had to do it to buy her husband a gift. Her hair was cut in just a move of the scissors. Her hair was on the floor now, instead of being where it belonged. She got the money and left.
Now she was walking rapidly in the streets of London. She didn’t know where she was going, nor she minded. She was just a vulnerable little woman of London. But of course, nothing stayed like that. She didn’t even understand what happened, it happened in a blink of an eye. She was on the floor. Her hand went up to her back, there she felt a warm liquid streaming down from her spine. She was slowly losing her consciousness. The last thing she saw before she closed her eyes for an eternity was the picture of her spouse, looking at her smiling between the dolar bills. "
