My Strange Learning Language Phases

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog, if anyone is reading these. Doesn't matter, I halfly write these because I want to improve myself and you know, these will be left as a memory to me one day. Today, I want to talk about my attempts in learning new languages.

There are actually three languages that I attempted to learn in different times. Well, one of them somehow worked out and here I am writing this. So, these three languages were English, Russian and Spanish. English worked out and I recently took two English exams (PET and FCE). From PET I got 166 out of 170 and from FCE I got 95 out of 100. Still, I'll be talking about my English phase, too.

So, my first second language phase starts the summer before fifth grade (Yes that young!) because the new school I was going to attend which by the way I still attend to actively used English. (It is a eight-year education school so don't worry I'm not a middle school!) That's why I tried to learn a bit of English by myself in summer. Well, did it work? No, obviously! I tried to use the books our lovely education system used (which is still used in primary schools) and guess what, they did not teach at all after all! I didn't use any internet while trying to do this so the most English I knew was some phrases like "Hello, how are you?" and I supposedly learned English for three years. Well, in these three years I have no idea why but nearly all of our English teachers got pregnant! At least, my lovely school's English lessons were fantastic! We learned a lot of A1 level of English and we did not know any before that. Moreover, when I started six grade, I actually had the amount of English I needed to watch Youtube in English. With that, I finally started to improve my English by myself. Of course, my school's lessons have taught a lot, too. However, you can't learn something just by being in the classroom. I was not and am not a student who participated a lot in lessons but because I tried to use my knowledge outside of class, my English got advanced more rapidly comparing to my peers. Without any base from before, I learned it. Now, I have been speaking English for a few years. So, this phase is a good one to be honest.

My second phase started in 5th grade summer. For context, my mom speaks Russian fluently and she sometimes speaks Russian with her friends. Because of that I wanted to learn Russian. Well, I did not take into account the fact that it is one of the (second hardest if I remember correctly) hardest languages out there and my sixth grade self thought I would rock it. I tried to learn it with Duolingo (obviously) and if you asked me what I remember from those lessons, I wouldn't be able to answer you. It is probably the fact that I did not try that hard and haven't practiced it in ages but still. A fun summer activity to do.

Now, last but not least, my most recent phase: Spanish. Because of my failed attempt at learning a hard language, in the summer of 7th grade, I decided to try a language that is similar to English because people usually recommend that you try to learn a language that is similar to one of your languages. That's why I started Spanish and I still try to learn Spanish. Unfortunately the motivation just comes when it's summer because in winter I am really busy. However in seventh grade, I needed to make a project on learning languages so that's why I tried to learn Spanish for 40 days (42 to be exact and this is the story of how I got my longest streak) in Duolingo. Well, at least I can partly speak some Spanish now and understand basic texts. For example, let me introduce myself.

¡Hola! Yo soy Aynur. Yo tengo...años. Yo aprendo Español y yo hablo Español poco. Yo hablo inglés y turco. Yo tengo un hermano y el tiene 23 años. Yo no tengo una mascota. Yo quiero estudiar ciencias de la computación.

I can't say I am the best speaker but I still try to learn! Anyway, this was it for this week's blog, see you in the next one!
